statefarmgift Dorcelin Bazil, State Farm Insurance Agent, gave Greater Hidden Hills Community Development Corporation the first installment of a $3,000 grant for the beautification efforts. Board Member Nadine Rivers-Johnson accepted the check in early November.

We will use State Farm’s grant on Phase II. We just completed planting the median on S. Hairston, near Redan Road. It looks terrific! We’re working closely with Keep DeKalb Beautiful.  Our private-public partnership is an effective and gratifying way to promote investment in our community.

Our goal is to beautify all quadrants of this key intersection in our community.  Improving the streetscape will encourage people to take a second look at local businesses and will attract new development. Our efforts so far – and recognition by prestigious companies like State Farm – are already building community pride.

We did it! S.Hairston Median Beautification a Success!

Dozens of people contributed money and time. Keep DeKalb Beautiful provided expert assistance, heavy equipment, and volunteers. Local business donated money and in-kind support. We worked together and beautified the median on S.Hairston, just south of Redan.

It is planted with 10 crepe myrtle and 58 bushes — burning bush, ornamental grass, and gold mop cypress.

Our volunteers also picked up trash for close to one mile in each direction of the intersection.  DeKalb County Commissioner Mereda Davis-Johnson came, and she helped pick up trash and dig!  Steve Bradshaw, Democratic nominee for Commissioner District 4 also attended and helped. Keep DeKalb Beautiful Director Gordon Burkette and his crew (all volunteering their time on Saturday) pitched in all day long.

Thank you, everybody, for the wonderful community spirit.  This project demonstrates our commitment to each other, high standards, and revitalized business districts.

Median Beautification is Underway

Keep DeKalb Beautiful is helping prep the median for planting. We’ll be ready to plant 10 trees and 71 bushes Saturday morning, Oct. 29.

Please join us from 9 – 1.

Please park in the shopping center parking lots on either side of the median. (Remember to lock your cars.)

Businesses’ and Residents’ Donations Growing! Planting Day Oct. 29

We are pleased to announce that the national business community is supporting our efforts to beautify the streetscape at S. Hairston and Redan Road. We have received a $3,000 pledge from State Farm Insurance and a $500 pledge from Hackney Real Estate Services (owner of Crowe’s Plaza on the SE corner). 

Many local businesses have contributed to the Phase One campaign – landscape improvements to the S. Hairston median just south of Redan Road.  We thank Bruster’s, Frierson Design,  Taryn Lawrence State Farm, Wells Fargo, Redan Package Store, and Jiffy Lube. We also thank the Hidden Hills Civic Association and more than three dozen individuals who have contributed. The fundraising continues as we prepare for our first installation.

Sept. 17, 1 – 5 p.m.

The 2nd annual Greater Hidden Hills community event will showcase several high school bands and many local businesses. Join us for fun, music, prizes, and outdoor boutiques and services!  Redan-Hairston Map-band icon
The event will be held at Redan Village: NE corner of S. Hairston & Redan.

All money raised will be used for the streetscape beautification project at S. Hairston and Redan.

Back by popular demand – the Battle of the Barbers. Several lucky contestants will get a free haircut, and the public votes on the best stylist.

Local businesses and entrepreneurs are welcome to set up shop at the festival! We encourage you to bring your own shade! Note, electricity is not available. Please pay:

The Greater Hidden Hills Community Development Corporation is proud to recognize Nick’s Barbershop with a beautiful planter. Owner Vance Harper opened thPlanter Givenis successful shop at Redan/S. Hairston 28 years ago. We applaud his dedication to the community,  the outstanding service he provides, and the well-maintained storefront.  GHHCDC installed the planter to encourage other businesses to spruce up their storefronts. Curb appeal matters!
