Happy New Year!

Celebrate MLK Day with Action

Share your commitment to the community at the MLK Day Service Project at Hairston Park. Join us Monday January 15 from 9am-12pm to work on beautification projects at Hairston Park. Park Pride and HandsOn Atlanta are recruiting volunteers from metro Atlanta, and we welcome the help. Let’s represent OUR community well; all you need is casual attire and a dash of neighborly pride.

We’ll work on clearing invasive species, picking up trash, cleaning the playground and pavilion area, and clearing trails near the wetlands.

Hairston Park is at 889 S. Hairston; Stone Mountain, GA 30088. The entrance is at the intersection of S. Hairston and Mainstreet Park Dr. The park is on S. Hairston between Elam Road and Redan Road.

Stay Tuned: Redan Road Improvements in the Works

DeKalb County Transportation Division plans to ask the community about our needs and goals for Redan Road, from Kensington Rd/Holcombe Rd to South Hairston Road.

There will be websites, surveys and public meetings, and we are on the list to receive notification which we will share with you.

Commissioner Cochran-Johnson’s office shared the news about the “scoping study.”  According to Engineering Manager Patrece Keeter, “We are looking to identify steps necessary to transform the Redan Road corridor from a two-lane street to a multimodal complete street with improved traffic operations and safety, that supports existing users and economic development. The purpose of the scoping study is to identify transportation infrastructure projects which meet community goals and objectives, that are then presented to state and regional partners for programming and funding requests.  Redan Road will be a focal point/gateway to central DeKalb with the Indian Creek MARTA Station TOD, Electric Owl Studios, and direct access to the Major Mobility Investment Project (MMIP)- I285 East Express Lanes to our established neighborhoods and beyond.
